Vesterålen and Lofoten 2006

The sky was gray and it was raining a little bit. And it was quite stormy. As a matter of fact we woke up because of the storm. We had to get out quickly in order to put down the safari room and drive in the sun blind. Otherwise it would have been blown away by the storm! It's really unbelievable how quickly the weather can change here!

We had breakfast in the camper and it was very cosy. Then we packed our stuff and left the camping site at about 10.30 hrs.

This was our first rainy day on Lofoten. This weather is quite typical for Lofoten. Before we came here it had been raining for six weeks! But we should not complain, we have had great weather until yesterday.

We made another short stop at the Gimsøy church and continued then southwards. An otter ran over the street. It's a nice animal!

We left the island Gimsøy and drove on road number E10 towards Leknes. We made a stop in Borg at the Viking Museum, where we bought a book about Lofoten. In Leknes we made some shopping.

We continued on E10 until Vareid. From there we went to the little village Vikten. There is a glassworks, a pottery and a nice little café.

We even went to Nusfjord, but the weather was to bad to stay there.

Finally we came to a nice camping site in Skagen. It is situated right by a sand beach. It was still gray and windy and a little bit rainy. But this couldn't stop us from taking a nice walk along the beach. On this camping site we met the nice couple from Hamburg again, which we had met in Bleik on Vesterålen.

We even met a couple of young men from Basel, who had been at the North cape with bicycles!!! They had been on the road for 12 weeks and it should take them some more weeks to come back to Basel! They had even brought their dog, who could run beside the bicycles when there was no traffic. On larger roads he was transported in a little cage behind the bicycle.

We had spaghetti for dinner.
